Elgin Kiwanis Noon Club Backround
The Kiwanis Club of Elgin was organized on February 19, 1920 and chartered on March 9, 1920. The sponsoring club was the Kiwanis Club of Aurora.
In the 90's the club raised $39,000 towards a Kiwanis International project to elminate iodine deficiency in the world. More recent fundraising efforts went towards purchasing the Readership Van for Gail Borden Library, a flag pole at the Boys & Girls Club, playground equipment at Kids Hope United in Elgin and Kiwanis Park located at the corner of National and Raymond streets in Elgin.
Major fundraising projects for the Elgin Kiwanis Noon Club include our annual Peanut Day, where you'll find many members at the intersections of Elgin streets dispensing bags of peanuts for a small donation. More recently, other big fundraisers include our annual Bar-B-Q held in August, our Reverse Raffle in April and the our participation in the Elgin Fox Trot Run on Memorial Day.
Our club spirit and unity is such that club Presidents have no difficulty when they seek members to serve as Committee Chairpersons. We maintain a continuing flow of quality young men and women from throughout our community who will continue the tradition of service established by the hundreds of Club members before them. With the help of a supportive community, the Elgin Kiwanis Noon Club will remain an important factor in making ours a desirable community in which to work and live.
Our most rewarding day, locally, is in January when our Benevolence Committee awards the cash disbursements raised throughout the year to local charities.
